About Planet Devs
Planet Devs aggregates articles from independent software dev blogs across the web. We celebrate devs who publish on their own domains, not on centralized platforms.
Why independent blogs?
Platforms like Medium and dev.to offer convenience, but they come with trade-offs: paywalls, algorithmic feeds, and content you don't truly own. When a platform changes its rules or shuts down, your writing can disappear.
Independent blogs are different. They're hosted on domains the authors control. They don't chase engagement metrics. They represent a more open, decentralized web where ideas flow freely through RSS—a technology that predates social media and still works beautifully.
The Planet tradition
Our name pays homage to "Planet" sites from the early 2000s—Planet GNOME, Planet Debian, Planet Python. These aggregators collected blog posts from open source community members, creating a shared space for ideas without centralizing content.
That spirit lives on. Many of the best technical writers still maintain personal blogs. Planet Devs brings their voices together in one place, while respecting that the content belongs on their own sites.
How it works
We fetch RSS feeds daily from dozens of dev blogs. Articles are displayed in reverse chronological order. We show Hacker News engagement when available, so you can find discussions around posts that resonated with the community.
No accounts. No algorithms. No tracking. Just good writing from devs who own their words.
